Residency for a Switzerland based artist in 2020

A collaboration with the South America programme COINCIDENCIA of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.

Residency program:
EXPANDED TERRITORIES

The cheLA residence offers an environment for research and experimentation for artists of various practices in a broad sense. Expanded Territories program seeks to go beyond established borders and generate dialogue and projects in relationship with the local social and urban dynamics.
The selected participant will be working with a group of local and international artists, the activities of the residency programs include visits, talks, and public presentations.

Whom we invite to apply:
Swiss Artists from diverse backgrounds (social practice, visual artists, performers, choreographers, theater directors, sound, and other interdisciplinary practices) researching in the subjects of gentrification, migratory movements, sustainability and politics of food, urban exploration, experimental architecture, sustainable mobility, collective creativity, and others encompassing to the concept of the Anthropocene, are invited to apply.

The neighborhood:
cheLA is located in a neighborhood in the south of the City of Buenos Aires, an area that has been historically relegated. In the last few years, a strong gentrification process is changing the characteristics and dynamics of Parque Patricios. Since its beginning in 2003, cheLA has witnessed all these changes and aims to reflect on these processes by developing projects in dialogue with the community.

The concept:
cheLA is a center of contemporary culture open to the community that promotes research and artistic production.
Three main conceptual axes cross the different projects and practices that are developed in cheLA: Culture, Technology, and Community. Each project is selected and sustained by its potential to be multidisciplinary, open to dialogue and interaction with other projects and with different sectors of society, both local and regional.

The Building:
cheLA is located in a 5,000 m2 building, a former factory of rationalist architecture equipped with diverse modules: a living space with 7 private rooms, wood workshop, digital construction equipment, auditorium, working and exhibition spaces.

RESIDENCY PROGRAM >> March 2 — May 31, 2020

PRO HELVETIA RESIDENCY INCLUDES:
– Travel costs: international flights
– Accommodation and per diems
– Production support up to 800 CHF

THE ARTIST IS EXPECTED TO:
– Get a VISA if it is requested
– Have a travel health insurance
– Participate in the activities and events coordinated by cheLA

APPLICATION:
– Short bio: up to 300 words in English
– Statement: describe the ideas behind your work in a way that helps the jury understand their subjects, concerns, and intentions. Up to 500 words in English.
– Visual presentation: Up to 10 images with a brief description. For videos include the link and password if it is needed.

CANDIDATES MUST:
– Send the application before October 28th 2019 to info@chela.org.ar with the subject COINCIDENCIA - Pro Helvetia Residency cheLA / Name of the candidate
– Collect the documentation in a single PDF file up to 10 mb.
The selected candidates will be contacted mid-November 2019.
